As Engineer, Architect and Researcher in the last years I worked in different fields requiring sometime quick engineered solutions for very simple daily issues. I employed my time and skills to design and produce objects, components, tools, and systems across different fields. I am glad to share such things hoping you do good use of it. If you feel to contribute to my effort and time you can donate something at the end of the page. If you require assistance or specific application and you are as me a student, researcher, maker I am glad to help or when and where possible personally assist you. This is meant for all people shared and kept track of their works, because I learned from them so much and I still do. Notes: For the 3D print object I used an Ultimaker Original. If you have familiarity with it you know that best result depend from machine to machine, from room temps and humidity. I guess best suggestion is trying to fit your own best settings.

In Ultimaker Original, from time to time because too high “Travel Speed” or “Print Speed”,  if axis` belts are well in tension, the main X/Y axis could eventually shift noisily and preventing from a fine and clean detail, or even worst. My solution was to change the cap with one customized: assembled with a 5 mm stainless sphere, with the possibility to oil from time to time, the axis shifting is prevented yet minimizing the friction (minimal point of contact between axis and cap) and blocking the shifting motion of backslash.

Retro-light Ikea Printing Glass-Bed

In Ultimaker Original, essential feature is the starting layer in which the model initiate the FDM process. To prevent uneven starting condition, facilitate surface cleaning process, improve bottom print-quality, and easy the checkup process while printing, the best option is using a glass bed to print, supported with a retro-illuminated tuned cold led-light that conveniently Ikea offer for an affordable price.

Leveling Vibrating Plane for Casting in Horizontal adjustable plane

For who is familiar to the process of molding and casting liquid rubber or plastic, from time to time -especially when the floor or table is not perfectly set- to obtain a leveled cast with  a horizontal finishing top is handy  an adjustable surface. The adjustable pad -set in a 5 mm thick glass plane- do the trick. The screw allow you to adjust the level of the plane reaching the correct horizon. The integrated vibration motor (common vibration motor usually present in mobiles generally with 1.5-3 volts operation range) is also an handy mean when you use particularly non-viscous liquid plastic. Indeed using vacuum degassing is often not necessary -or even make it worst- with liquid plastic: while gentle vibrations help little bubbles trapped into the mold, to quickly reach the surface before the plastic final set.

Single layer air core inductor

Simple frame to support a single layer inductor. I personally used for a class E amplifier.

You can calculate the inductance based on the classic Wheeler’s formula for single-layer inductance (air core, tightly wound), which dates back to the radio days of the 1920s:

L = 0.001N2D/((228D/2) + 254l)

Where:
L is the inductance in henry’s.
D is the coil diameter in meters.
l is the coil length in meters (>0.8radius)
N is the number of turns.
The diameter is measured from center of wire trough center of the coil and to center of the wire on the opposite side.

This formula applies at ‘low’ frequencies (<3MHz) )using enameled copper wire (magnet wire) tightly wound.

Small reductions in the inductance obtained can be achieved by pulling the turns apart slightly. This will also reduce self-resonance. Other combinations of wire and coil diameter may be tried but best results are usually obtained when the length of the coil is the same as its diameter.

If you need good induction stability in the presence of vibration then wind the coil on a support made from a suitable non magnetic plastic or ceramic former and lock the windings using epoxy glue or other suitable adhesive

Simple frame to support a single layer inductor. I personally used for WPT project. With the use of a standard pvc tube you can stack one after the other inductors maintaining the alignment and allowing testing variable distance among coils.
